If not made obvious enough already, you'd have to have played the Point Lookout DLC to totally get this.

Both Desmond and Professor Calvert are annoying, both having similar science-over-all-else personalities. Desmond over-uses the 'f' word (he is literally confirmed to be the most foul-mouthed character in Fallout 3 [which is parodied in this comic], with Mayor McCready of Little Lamplight falling a close second), and Calvert just blabbers on about how Desmond is a douchebag.

THE FOLLOWING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Both of them are very corrupt in their intentions; Desmond wants to take revenge on Calvert and steal his long-lost family jewels, and Calvert wants to kill Desmond just because they're rivals and Desmond likes to interfere with Calvert's cult of minions called 'tribals'. But let's just put it this way: no matter which of the two you decide to kill, Calvert will end up dying in the end. Meaning if you kill Desmond, you essentially just wasted a life.
