Anyway…

Okies, History Time~ 8D

Panel 1: After the Bay of Pigs Incident (where Cuban exiles, trained by the US, attempted to overthrow the new Communist government. They failed miserably.) Cuba started hanging out with the USSR more. They feared more invasions by he US, and wanted a strong ally to back them up if that ever happened. Eventually, the two countries became close buddies, and Russia began installing nuclear missiles on Cuban soil. They were pointed at the US.

Understandably, America was none too happy with this. And after much tension eventually decided to instate a naval blockade around Cuba until the missiles were removed (instead of bombing the krap out of Russia and Cuba, which is good, because that would have started WWIII). The missiles were removed, and war was avoided.

Everyone forgets though, that America still had it's own missiles in Turkey that were pointed at Russia. ^^;

Panel 2: Ever since Fidel Castro took power in 1959, Cuba's been a little Communist child, much to America's dismay. You see, Cuba was pretty much under America's rule from the early 1900's until the revolution (check out the Teller Amendment and the Platt Amendment) because of the outcome of the Spanish-American war. So when Cuba seized real independence, America started up an Embargo.

That embargo still exists today, much to modern intellectuals' dismay.

Also, Fidel Castro was in power until 2008 (I believe) when he passed off power to his brother, Raul Castro.

And that's all for your history lesson for today~! 8D
