In the Marlowe play, Mephistopheles originally appears in a more grotesque, demon-like form (I would only assume, based on typical 16th century depictions of demons), and Faust implores him to change his form because he's too ugly to look at. (Now, if that doesn't do a number on a guy's self-esteem, I don't know what would. :P) In the early stages of the comic, I tried to run with that idea, but no matter how I tried, I just couldn't come up with a good design. I'm just not good at drawing a gargoyle-esque creature, so I just…didn't.
So, yay or nay on the font and black speech bubbles (well, y'know…if not for the purple screen it'd be black) for Mephistopheles? It actually might be easier to make a call on it next page, where the text will be smaller. I might end up having to change the font, but I just wanted to try out something different.
Oh man, Faust has got the biggest "WTF?"Â face I've ever drawn… I know it probably shouldn't, but it greatly amuses me.
