Yes, Ruger can deflect shots with his sword. He can't do it all the time, of course, because it takes an incredible amount of concentration, just like that trick he pulled in #49 where he ripped up a slaver like a cuisinart. They're neat tricks that most people can't do, but he can't do them all the time. That makes him more believable than the invincible assasins in cartoons and movies that use some super move to kill a victim early on, then either forget they have that particular attack or never use it when fighting the hero.
