In case anyone is wondering, if they kill him, it's basically like letting him go, so their focus is keeping him alive and contained. That's really the only way to get him out of the picture.

Generally speaking, he has to be touching something in order to use his fire on it - palm or fingers, and even then it would take a bit to melt through the metal. These guys figure as long as they keep an eye on him, he's pretty much stuck there.
