This wasn't really conceived as a "fish out of water" type joke per se. I never really wanted to spend a lot of time on that stuff. It was more just what the characters would do, I suppose. Micah would leave him with some way to contact them, and Ry would not really be familiar with how to use. (I imagine Micah showed him how, but with all new technology, it's weird until you do a few times.)
