Author notes
So here's what I think helps make a sucessful webcomic: a community. To have a collective group of fans scattered throughout the world is good, but to have those fans interacting, talking and sharing with each is great. Drunk Duck is a great hosting site specefically for that. It is nice to start out right with a community at your feet, giving you feedback right away. But the problem is, that community is your's, necessarily. They are a good stepping stone, you have an immediate audience, and a small, subcommmunity can be formed, however they still often have their own webcomics to worry about and their own fans. I think if you want to have a real fanbase, one day you are going to have to break away from Free Hosting sites and buy your own. This, of course, is for those that want to pursue webcomicing beyond a simple hobbie. That is my current goal as of now for my comic, build a community, and that's why I started the F.U.I. Forums . if you can get your fans talking to each other, they are going to get more involved and from that, get others involved.
