Issue 6: Fell

I have a confession to make. The working title of every story I've ever done is "Revenge on Robert Jordan." Jordan had this thing where he would introduce a few characters (in the case of the Wheel of Time series, Rand, Mat, and Perrin), then send them out on an adventure, separate them, bring in new peripheral characters, expand the role of the peripheral characters… until there are so many characters that one book—one 700+ page book—is devoted to what happened in the last five minutes of the previous book to *all* of the characters.

The fact that I am featuring the original trio on the cover on this issue has something to do with the fact that I am about to introduce a whole new set of characters and story arcs! (insert evil laugh here)

Actually, I hope it's still just a fun story. One of the advantages over a 16-page-a-month over a 700+ page book series is that I only *have* to think a month ahead. Character arcs can be introduced and then abandoned if they don't work. I can respond to feedback… if I ever get any :).

A special non-prize to someone who can tell me what the title of this issue means (clue: the title is on the next page).

In this issue, I am indebted to Michael Mapplebeck (aka Mapps), whose "Manger Scene" has become a makeshift laboratory for my scientists. Many of his props from other collections have been scattered around the room as well. I am also grateful for the multitudes who recreate Star Trek sets, which will be featured frequently as the backdrops of my spacecraft interiors over the next few issues. I must also credit David Dyal (aka Dyald) for the Solar Federation officer uniforms—only seen briefly in this issue (though we'll see more of them in the future). Last, but not least, I am completely digging Jepe's SpecialZ, which is the source of much of the fire, smoke, and light effects in this issue.
