Issue 17: Here There Be Dragons

Max is going to point out in a few pages that the whole "secret mission" thing doesn't work quite as well if everyone on the team is wearing the uniforms of the royal guard. Practical, with the breath mask and body armor and who knows what manner of secret pockets. But as a "disguise" for a secret mission…. not so much. Until Max said it (sometimes you don't foresee what you're characters are going to say and do until you're actually doing the art… he didn't say this in the original script), this hadn't occurred to me. I realized I had missed a great opportunity to render my cast as a band of steam punk space pirates. I created this cover image, but was too lazy to redo all of the pictures inside.
This issue was a challenge to put together. There's one page which I worked on for a month. Granted, part of that was because I was traveling and would be working on the page in the evenings at the hotel and it took a half hour to open and two or three hours to save. But, still, a month on one page. I'll point it out to you when we get to it. I'm kind of proud of how it turned out.
Actually, to be honest (why would I lie to you?), I'm generally pretty proud of how this issue turned out. I've been "remastering" the first few issues to be collected for a print/download run. On one hand, it's been turning out pretty well, adding a lot of new pages and stuff. On the other, comparing the first three issues to this one… well, I believe I've come a long, long way in terms of art and storytelling. In a way, it feels like this is the first "real" issue of Found Art. Like, it is finally coming out looking like I imagined it a year and a half ago.
