Chapter 17.10.519

Fight, fight! Last we saw Fred miss that jumping attack, he kinda froze up and was open to his ipponents attacks. So, he's learned along the way =3 Plus, Gladiador as we saw, is pretty much a rookie, but looks to be quite powerful =0 I still feel a bit rusty on the action, though =S Especially sonce many action scenes in book 1 I felt dissappointed with. Looking at it now, it feels (to me, anyway) that I drew those action scenes at a pace to get them out of the way, since I'm not too fond of drawing action scenes. Mostly because as more I grew disenchanted with mainstream comics, the less I found entertaining doing fights and what not (which believe it or not, was a strong point in my art way before I started Warlord).

Speaking of Warlord and mainstream and what not, for years, there have been many questions that have repeated themselves about what this comic exactly is. "The title says 'Warlord', but there's hardly any action!! Why?", "Is this REALLY a superhero comic?", "Is this REALLY a comic!? It would work better as a novel..", and "Why isn't TMW more popular?". I shall finally answer all that lol.

1- As I mentioned before, I don't find action scenes as amusing anymore. With that being said, I need to feel a need that the action is justified in the situations where it arises. Book 1 lacked many action, and I had to add action scenes as I went to not let the book move slower than it already had. Book 1 was practically the introduction of 80% of the main characters in the book, and I REALLY wanted to flesh those characters out so in later chapters, people would understand why some characters react the way they do/will in certain situations.

2- Is this a superhero comic? Yes and no. Even when I first did the original story back in highschool, the tagline to those notebooks was "not just another superhero comic" (I used that briefly during some book 1 promos). This story is more of a drama than anything else. Kinda like Grey's Anatomy is a drama taking place in a hospital, and is not exactly a educational medical show. Warlord is a drama that takes place in a superhero/fantasy enviorment.

3- You'd be surprised how many times I've been told this story would work better as a novel rather than a comic (especially by non-comicbook reading friends that read Warlord). Well, comics was my first form of literature as a child. I would check them out and beg for one to be bought for even before I knew how to read. I was born a comic fan, I will DIE a comic fan. As with everything, my taste evolved over the years and reading novels definitely has influenced on this story. That being said, I do plan to eventually adapt the books into novel form as well. Perhaps after book 2 ends, and I finish up other side-projects, since aparently there are quite a few people wanting this story in novel form.

4- Why is Warlord not more popular? Simply because it's NOT a commercial story. Mayor characters get killed off, the ending is not always a happy one. It can get extremely violent. It can get extremely silly. It can get pretty slow at times. There's cussin' and sexual content from time to time. In essence, with Warlord I have pretty much broken every "rule" a superhero comic (especially here in PR) "should" be. Warlord has NEVER been intended to be a mainstream comic like say the Spider-Man type or what not, this story is NOT kid-friendly (though there is a surprising amount of kids that read this and always stop by my table on the rare convention appearences I make). I have been suggested to make this story more "commercial" to make it "popular" and what not. I just don't want too lol XD Maybe I'll eventually venture into more mainstream stuff (I've written some scripts for a graphic novel that will appear sometime soon for an artist friend of mines). But for now, I like the whole "cult" status the book has been labled with =3 Also, I don't really promote myself outside of the circle of friends and readers that I have, because I alwasy supported and promoted other artists here in PR. Emotionally draining as it was lol But meh, who knows, maybe I will promote the comic more, since there have been people who I promoted more than myself, that ultimately did not (and I hate to say lol) deserve the help I gave them in the end. Who knows?

I know, I know, loooooong note many of you probably didn't even read lol XD But bear with me, who knows when I'll lose internet access again, so this is just a happy kind of thing lol And because I felt many of these questions deserved to finally have an answer =3

that kid yellow- Thanks! I still feel a bit rusty on the action portion XD
DAJB- Thx for the 5!
Peipei- Yeah, it's gonna get a lot more intense before the end, though =0
Usedbooks- Thank you! It's been so long that I've experimented with perspective, that this one actually took me a while to pull off, almost wound up not doing it lol XD
Dotdotdot- Thanks, man! =D
