Stuff to know:
Minfillia is the leader of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, a group your PC joins in the game storyline. She acts as the diplomat while you and the rest are her arms and do most of the adventuring.
The 'main' members of the Scions are pictured in the screenshot. From the left they are- Urianger; an Elezen (elf) scholar who likes to speak in a very archaic form of language. He's mysterious in his own right, but loses his cool when faced with a wealth of ancient books or the primal (demigod) Ramuh. He later guides you on a few side-quests through the final hard dungeon of the first game expansion.
Yda and Papalymo; This pair covers relations in Gridania for the Scions. Yda is a fighter(or monk), while Papalymo(the short one) appears to be a black mage (or standard magician). Yda is ditzy and lovable, and Papalymo tries to keep her in line, most times unsuccessfully.
Y'shtola; the token cat girl of the main Scions. Y'shtola acts as liason to the port city of Limsa Lominsa. She is a white mage (or cleric/healer), and wise beyond her years.
Thancred; (a personal favorite) a rogue/bard, handles relations with Ul'dah. He's traditionally a flirt, and is usually seen in the company of one or more women. He tries too hard to be serious at times, which leads to some trouble in the games' story.

Vesper Bay: A small port settlement in Thanalan. The Scions have a base here.
