13-1: American Thanksgiving

The working title was Good Ol' American Thanksgiving, but the text would have overlapped with the series title, and I'm not having any of that. So just know Canada has one in October.

Strictly speaking, Thanksgiving is about GIVING THANKS, but it's hard to think about that when the stench of bitter regret hangs in the air, only to be suffocated and stamped out by the savory smell of turkey. I'll bet you anything, though, if the natives knew what the future held, they would have let those pilgrims starve.

So yes, this is our storyline for the week. Thanksgiving. It is, the way I see it, THE holiday for food lovers. Sure, Christmas has some pretty sweet meals, but Thanksgiving is the ultimate Turkey Day. Bird, potatoes, stuffing, yams, more potatoes, gravy all over just about everything. And what's next? PUMPKIN PIE, of course!

I'm not a big fan of cranberry sauce, but I suspect Gary is. Hm.

So, in case you haven't noticed, Gary's mom doesn't exactly know he's essentially created life in a flask. I don't know exactly how he'll break it to her, but he's holding off for now.

Don't worry, the little guy doesn't go hungry.

I wanted to actually make it full-color in here and do away with saturation in the lab, but then I realized that Gary's not even in there or dressed or anything but talking to his imp. Then I wanted to go to a very small amount of color, then I thought… no. No, that's horrible, it's still his lab.

So I just went with 50% saturation as normal. Yargh. I can't wait to get back to alchemy.

I hold my hands up to say I did assume you were American, which I am sorry for. I did not in any way assume that you were white.

I do not see how anything from my words was racist at all. I was not racist towards the Americans or anybody else in anyway. Most of the people that took America from the Natives were from Britain, which is my own country. In fact, the way a lot of people view Native Americans is completely racist, but they are such an ethnic minority that people just don't care about that.

Historical inaccuracies? My mother herself is Native American by adoption. If you would care to read through years upon years' worth of research, then try and point out any "historical inaccuracies".

You blaming the eradication on the Native's immune system clearly shows that you do not know any of the facts of the bloody warfare– warfare from both sides, of course– and the outright disgusting treatment of Natives, things repeated again in the holocaust, things which are still happening today.

little swan, you assume I am an American, and that I am white.

Your rant is full of historical inaccuracies and simple racism.

    Wow, your art looks fantastic.

And THANK YOU. The treatment of the Natives is sickening. My mother is a Native by adoption, even though we live in England.

Taltamir, the Native Americans were perfectly safe and healthy until *we* came over and annhilated them. Think of women and children being raped and thrown on bonfires. Also… the WHITE PEOPLE introduced scalping. The Natives did it in retaliation.

Thank you for being an American that knows the actual truth, Xiam. I don't blame Taltamir–American kids are brought up with the untruths because the victors always write the stories, amiright?

Pfft, I don't take antibiotics. If my turkey falls onto the floor this Thanksgiving, I'll pick it up and eat it, and be thankful I have any.

And I don't think it was so much that the natives didn't have a good immune system… it's just that it wasn't prepared for the things the Europeans brought. Smallpox and all that. Remember, nobody in Europe cared much about hygene either until the Black Plague swept through.

but yes there was plenty of killing and land stealing to go along too…

And nothing celebrates it like a delicious slaughtered bird… mmm meat!

technically, the people in the USA today are from later immigrations. The puritans did not fare well..
And what killed off the native American's was diseases. Turns out that bathing regularly and not keeping livestock in the house doesn't lead to a very strong immune system.
Today people in africa are developing immunity to aids, while diseases in the west are developing immunity to our antibiotics… so, shit is gonna hit the fan pretty soon.
