In a single-blind study, the subjects are not told which experimental group they are part of – like if testing a drug, the participants don't know if they are receiving the drug or the placebo. In a double-blind study neither the subjects nor the experimenters are aware which people are in which groups, so as to eliminate any potential bias. (Subjects are assigned randomly, and the information is kept by a third party and not revealed until the data is analyzed.)
Yeah, I went for more vocab + slapstick. I should be more clever, but I couldn't think of a better strip this week. Every time I tried, this one blocked my line of thought and demanded I draw it.
I have to be part of a "sleep study" tomorrow. I don't even know what that entails, but I mentioned my insomnia and sleep apnea to my doctor, so she made the appointment for the sleep study. Apparently, problems sleeping can actually cause weight issues. I always thought they were the *result* not the cause. Go figure. That has nothing to do with today's strip, but I found it interesting from a scientific viewpoint, so I figured I'd share.
