This joke was funnier in my head. Oh well. I rushed the art because I'm still in a bind for time. I have canoe training this week, and today I had to go buy supplies for that excursion. Plus, we went to see Night at the Museum, which was okay (basic sequel quality, I'm afraid).
I had a night program at the park last night, and I actually had someone show up. ^_^ The program was about bats and owls, and we walked through the woods after dark, which was a brand new experience for me. The little boy was a little bit scared. In honestly, I was too, but I put on an air of confidence, and we all conquered a bit of fear. We heard two owls, a bat (with my dad's ultra-sonic listening device), and probably 5 species of frogs. Sadly, it also reminded me of the price of civilization. Even out in the woods, we could hear noise pollution from the power plant, and the power plant lights prevented us from experience the night sky in its full majesty. *Sigh*
I remember trying to watch meteor showers with my roommates in the city. Inevitably, there would be a baseball game across the street, and they'd have those lights on past midnight. There is no astronomy for city dwellers, I'm afraid. For anyone who is into astronomy, I recommend you visit Greenbank, WV. It is home to an enormous radio telescope and nestled high in the mountains in some of the most beautiful and unspoiled country I've ever visited.
(Btw, I'm such a nerd that I looked up "airplane lights" to get the color and position right. :-P )
