Technology always fascinates me. Of course, biological processes also fascinate me. For example, many compounds used in pharmaceuticals actually have to be extracted from plant material because they cannot be synthesized in the lab either at all or as efficiently as the plants produce them. The pathways are simply too complex and many of the chemicals are too unstable to create in a lab setting.
Speaking of laboratories, I nearly didn't get this week's strip up on time because I have been absorbed in job hunting. I love my job at the park (of which I have taken many photos), but it is a seasonal position and will be over in a month. So, I am facing the dismal prospects of unemployment… again. I've mostly applied to lab/research positions in universities and pharmaceutical companies, but I'm also looking into the national park service (pursuing full-time positions similar to my current seasonal one).
I hope that something pans out for me. It probably means I'll have to move again, but I've made no ties here, so I'm not broken up about continuing life's journey. – Plus, it might give me more material for Gelotology. ~_^
