Sorry for the delay. I was suffering from a really violent psychosomatic affliction yesterday – an interesting phenomenon in itself, which I found fascinating, while at the same time incredibly irritating. Basically, I was doubled over in pain that wouldn't respond to treatment, and I couldn't get the strip done. Anyway, I'm really embarrassed about it, and would rather not talk about the causes. Suffice it to say, I will do my best to handle various stresses with more decorum in the future. ^_^;

Today's strip was inspired by the Animal Planet Show "River Monsters." It actually contains two punchlines in panels 1 and 3. I think it could be two good one panel gags if I tweaked it, but I prefer maintaining a three panel format.

Some biology careers are really REALLY adventurous and dangerous, not for the faint-hearted. (I am faint-hearted. Heh.) I know of quite a few field biologists who either met their demise in the field or suffered lasting scars or disfigurement. It is simply a job hazard for anyone who works with animals and/or in wild environments – not unlike the oil burn is to a cook or the paper cut to an office worker.

Working on or near water of any kind is also quite hazardous. Fishing is one of the most dangerous professions worldwide, and ichthyologists in the field are fishermen who don't want to harm their fish, which can make it downright deadly.

(Actually, what I enjoy about that show is not the amazing fish or the excitement but rather the interactions with the local human population. I love hearing them tell their stories.)

EDIT:

I almost forgot. There's a Gelotology cameo over at a new strip comic called Astronomalies.
