Whew! Got this one in on time. My new kittens have discovered how to get on the desk and seek to foil my attempts at webcomics. -_- I am feeling mostly better this week. I hate that I had to miss work to see the doctor, but I got caught up with all I needed to do.
This strip might be a little contrived and a pretty blah basis (one of my old stand-bys). I'm sure most of the general public already know birds are dinosaurs – or at least that's the most widely accepted interpretation. The diagram on the wall here is a cladogram. It is based on a system of shared and derived characters and genetics (where DNA analysis is available) to depict evolutionary relationships. If you google "bird cladogram," you should find something like this. I always found it pretty interesting. Some cladograms even have timeline estimates.
I wasn't sure the forms in the last panel would read as birds had I made them black or white as I originally planned. So, I made them red and added one on the wing.
Oh, and I again snuck in some literary geekdom too. "The Birds" was originally a novellette (a long short story ;) ) written by Daphne du Maurier in 1952. It's set in England just after WWII. I remember reading that story in high school and hearing it read on tape. I never saw Hitchcock's movie, I'm afraid, but it was a very enthralling story. I appreciate good imagery.
