This was inspired by a conversation I had with my brother. After our talk, I did a little more research. The Moon Treaty actually does make provisions against private conquest or exploration of celestial bodies. Basically, it is an agreement to declare the solar system international territory to not be developed and to be shared globally for research. While I say it's "real," it actually is more theoretical than anything because no country that has a space program has signed the treaty.
