smkinoshita: Yep, horses are worth a LOT in just about any society that I know of, and as a result were often protected a bit during battles.  Although if you really want to be effective, it's a lot easier to hit a mount than a rider.
kalliikak: I'm glad you didn't notice just how twisted the road would have to be to have that shot actually happen … and I think you know what happened on this page!
