[523] Quest: Tool

Bet none of you expected an update today, did you? Sorry about the week-long hiatus, but I had to re-install photoshop on my computer, which turned out to be much more problematic than I thought it would be.

Something else that caused a lack of updates is that Warriors of the Night volume one is almost complete and, as many of you already know by now, I'm looking for someone to publish it. So anyway, I've spent all week printing off pages, scripts and summaries, sticking them in A4 envelopes and then shipping them off to Dark Horse, Image and a bunch of indie publishers like Antartic, Avatar, etc.

All in all, it's been a busy week. I don't think I ever realised, nor have many of us even guessed, how much work there actually is when it comes to being a published author. With Fatum Chronicles, I just wrote a story in Microsoft Word and uploaded it to Lulu. Now, with WotN I have roughly 175 pages that will make up the graphic novel. The actual story, the cover pages, the extra content and I'm even writing a foreword to be included, or it might be an afterword, depending on how everything turns out.

For those of you wondering "So what? You're almost done anyway" well let me tell you something. Each page is currently at a size that works well for the internet, but not print. I need to find out the size and format that each page needs to be so that I can then go through roughly 162 pages and change them all into the right size and file type. Currently, I've been told the usual amount is a 300-600 dpi resolution (The pages are currently 75) and they're supposed to be 7000x10000 pixels saved as a bmp. I could start now, but I've heard a lot of companies do things differently, so I don't want to do all that work and then get told I need to do it all again.

And so, to those of you who ever wish to see your work in print, well then I advise you to be prepared to work a hell of a lot and also to be prepared for rejection and even absolutely no response. You have been warned. It's not all fun and games. And also, I think you have to put forward a donation to cover printing costs, so be prepared to have to save up some cash.

Well, enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll see you all on Monday, hopefully.

Until next time
The Aussie Kid
