Sir David Brewster FRS (1781 – 1868) was a Scottish physicist, mathematician, scientist, inventor, and writer.

He was one of the leading contributors to the Encyclopædia Britannica (7th and 8th editions) on many topics including the articles on electricity, hydrodynamics, magnetism, microscope, optics, stereoscope, and voltaic electricity.

He was a writer and editor of many scientific works.

Perhaps best known, as the inventor (or reinventor as there is some indications the greeks had created some) of the kaleidoscope.
