Mary Walton
Was an inventor in the late 1800's. Among other things she created methods of reducing pollution from smoke stacks, and part of the elevated rail system that reduced sound and vibration along the raised track of the day.

It was written a few decade after by the Woman's Journal "The most noted machinists and inventors of the century [Thomas Edison among them] had given their attention to the subject without being able to provide a solution, when, lo, a woman's brain did the work…"
