[Filler] Freedom Is Not Free
CartoonistWill on "For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us! Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, [then how] much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by His life! And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation."
-Romans 5:6-11
Happy [belated] Memorial Day!
I did this one a few years back (well before 2007?). It was a gift to a friend that went into the Marines and was stationed in Hawaii for a year or so.
Speaking of the troops, you know those churches that condemn our soldiers and want them to die? Yeah, I don't like that. In Scripture Jesus was shown feeling an entirely different way about soldiers. Back in the New Testament Bible days citizens would be forced to carry a Roman soldier's gear a mile as a Roman law (correct me if my history is incorrect) and in Matthew 5:41 Jesus says about that, "if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two." There are other passages that maybe I could use, but even without them the rest of Matthew 5:38-48 is enough in that Christ teaches to love others, especially those you consider your enemies. I'd like to do a Gospelman comic on it someday. The attacks the troops have been getting in "the name of Christ" is not only unfair to our soldiers, but is a misrepresentation of the true feelings of Jesus and His followers today. Which is sad, since those doing this claim to be brothers and sisters in Christ. But we've all made mistakes and been jerks, right? Here's to hoping we all mature as a family, united worldwide in the common cause of the good news of Christ's love, so that people see more of Him in us than they see of ourselves. :-)
