Ever since 2001, people naturally expect AIs which somewhat resemble HAL to want to murder their human protegees… can't say I'm not playing with that expectation. However, Lemniskate's guess on the previous page was right: cogito's main problem is that he "can hear him better down here then up there".

Also, regarding "afferents" and "efferents": One of the "layers of meaning" of this comics consists in my thinking of this station as a giant brain. I have already commented on cogito's being reminiscent of a "Cartesian Theater", but there are many more analogies at play here.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

REPLIES:

sux: Thanks! I tried not to make him overly "cold and emotionless", as I don't think that talking computers will turn out that way. Current AIs communicate by way of emotion with their users as well. Emotions guarantee a much smoother communication in many cases. Also, the old "I'm a robot and have no idea what emotions are" has been done to death, right…? :D

DAJB: Bipolar disorder… just what I was thinking of! :-)

Lemniskate: Haha! You'll notice that I've only been using bold emphasis since reading DAJB's guidelines to lettering, and especially this part:

…a number of professionals have said that one mark of an amateur letterer is that none of the text is in bold.

freefall_drift: It almost qualifies as a public service announcement, I guess. ^_^

alejkhan: Augh! I can't deal with this sort of psychological pressure!! (= No matter what happens, I won't tell.) :D

Nepath, raven37, Genejoke, Peipei, skreem, Zephyrion, man in black, mmm bacon0, Jabali: Thanks!
