EDIT: My comment below keeps getting butchered by the new dd comment system. Please check it out in its full length here.
Meet: Kano - the latest in a long tradition of female key characters in my comics :P I spent a significant amount of time on her design, since I had a strong intuition about what her visual "feel" should be like, and I wanted to make sure it came through in the final design.
In a way, I went back to my roots - which would be the influence of Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, particularly his Nadia design. Over the past decades, I have internalized his design style to a degree that I basically just need to ask myself "what would Sadamoto do?" whenever I want to achieve a certain effect that's (hopefully) similar to his work (although I'm not saying I'm particularly good at it :P).
In this case, there were other artists at whose work I did look at, most notably Brandon Graham and Joel Jurion, two of my current art heroes. I should also mention Mahiro Maeda, who has made me rethink using abstract lines and geometrical shapes, which inspired Kano's "bodypaint".
To the same degree, these lines were inspired by the new Evangelion Unit-01 design, with the glowing green stripes on its body. At first I thought that was a rather cheap move to sell new toys by simply painting stripes on the old design, but watching the new movies, it really grew on me. I imagine the lines on Kano's body to be moving and changing color and shape, according to her emotions.
As for the name "Kano": I was being uncreative here - it comes from the Japanese "kanojo". (Don't let the "girlfriend" part confuse you - it's the "She" part I was aiming for.)
As for the most important question - "Who is SHE?" - well, you'll just have to keep reading!
Anyway, that's it for chapter 2. I hope you've enjoyed it!
Thanks for reading and commenting.

sux: Thanks a lot!
Genejoke: Temperance please! :P
DAJB: Sensuous fictional women, actually T_T
Nepath: Glad to hear that. Thanks!
freefall_drift: I should have explicitly excluded Tron as an influence, eh? The "monster" was just in the flashbacks, but there was a reason for the flashbacks - which is going to be revealed at a later date. As for the hips - I know what you mean. In my defense: It's the pose, the angle AND alien fashion! ;-)
alejkhan: Haha! Perhaps… :-)
mind_reader, Peipei, Zephyrion, skreem, man in black, mmm bacon0: Thanks!
