In this issue: The Sappho Saga continues. The highborn children of Kleis are grown and involved in lives of their own: Charaxos, now a fledgling merchant, outrages his sister when he announces that he has bought and married a prostitute.

Larichos, a winebearer for the House of Penthilos, also known as the House of Many Kings, tries with their little brother Eurygios to counsel Sappho not to be so hard on their brother.

Unbeknownst to all her family, Sappho is already deeply embroiled with Alkaios and his friends in a political plot that will soon lead to her arrest and exile from Mytilene.

In present time an unexpected guest makes a visit to the House of the Muses. Gorgo of the House of Penthilos tells Sappho that she has opened a school for girls of her own in the city of Mytilene, with Andromeda, the daughter of Pittakos, as her headmistress.

Sappho tries not to appear upset by the news and it seems to anger Gorgo. The woman tells Sappho to remember that her reputation is fragile, and how interesting would it be if the people of Mytilene were reminded of her part in the assassination of the tyrant Myrsilos so many years ago.

Sappho orders Gorgo to leave, but the damage has already been done.
