re Soli: actualy, similar systems have worked with humans in history too. A lot of it has to do with being raised with an acceptance of the system. It's not all bad, their clans are responsible for taking care of them in return.

re Kikaru: sometimes, but it's also got a military tint to them. The drake of a clan leader is like the superior officer so although they can pall around like family, if they give an order, it's an order.
