This actually happened, not to me though but to one of the girls in our circle. Years later when I asked a guy friend why he never picked me or a few other girls he said "because the smart girls saw right through the trick so I didn't even bother." Wwow, did I get mixed feelings over that reply. I'm a smart girl? My friend was a dumb girl? We weren't worth the try? What? Whatever. One thing though, he was right when he said we saw right through the trick.
