Today I watched 'The imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' at the cinema. I personally really enjoyed it. Its advertised as being a fantasy adventure type story, but most of its set in the real world rather then the imagination of Doctor Parnassus! It was very interesting though. Doctor Parnassus is actually pretty much a representation of 'good' or 'virtues'. Hes been competing with the devil for thousands of years, and has always won, but now in modern day he appears as a withered old man who no one respects or is interested in. He puts on this show that invites people to make the right choice and be saved from evil. I cant give much away, of course, but I found it interesting how the climax is very different to what you expect as the story builds up, and I wonder if the climax wouldve been different, if the theme of the story would be different, if the actor who played this character hadnt died half way through making it. I feel like the story itself is searching for an answer to the whole 'whats the right choice to make?' theme, and Heath Ledgers death, as he had a defining part in the story, gave the question more meaning….
