other than exposition and hinting at things to come, this page served only two purposes. 1) to show kyo is a smoker. 2) to show that he is on good terms with neighbors. if it's one thing i've got sick of it's the antisocial surly hateable drunkard stereotype.

kyo, in truth, is based a good deal off the alcoholic who lived on the bottom floor of my father's apartment building. the guy was extremely nice to everyone, even though he had serious problems. once, his heater broke in the middle of winter. his solution was to start baking like crazy, to let the oven heat the apartment up. it worked, and as a result everyone else in the building was quickly buried under an avalanche of not-so-good cookies and cakes. he was a good guy.
