Lavindil is a middle-aged Aordian. In our years she's in her eighties. Aordians on average live around 160 years some as long as 250. Due to extensive modification of their genome in the distant past they do not age past around 35-40 until approaching death when they can deteriorate very quickly. Most pass because of massive organ failure due to age. Most humans who left Earth to colonize space 10,000 years ago had longevity and immunity enhancements that those who remained behind didn't.
