Lavindil is the former admiral who trains Red Chaos.
The "whole generation" is a reference to the war. The Aordians surely have some very advanced therapies for coping with trauma but the person remains changed by the experience.

I dropped my camera into my tea. So it's dead. It's such an old camera that an exact replacement is very cheap. I don't need anything fancy so it'll be enough and I should have the replacement by Friday.
