If you've read Attack of the Robofemoids or Tales of SIG this is familiar to you. It is a Grey Guy stripper gun. It is not technically a beamer working on a different concept involving the adjusting of multi-verse probability as opposed to amplifying some wavelength to destroy stuff.

The Grey Guy stripper gun is a Finite Improbability device as described in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy If you remember the finite improbability device was described as being best for the party gag of removing the hostess's clothing and making it reappear several feet away, which is precisely what this gun does. It also disorients and stuns the victim so perfect for Grey Guys. Or in this case Gals.

Because stripping people is what Grey Guys and Gals do.

The rainbow effects are part of the manipulation of improbability. Bob and later Lon's guns didn't have that effect as they're later more refined and less ostentatious examples. This one is an antique.
