Originally I was just going to have the skags be killed in the fight. Then decided to go with one of the underlying themes of my stories; the unwelcome and unwanted outsiders.

Grey Guys and Gals are outsiders and usually unwelcome and unwanted (See Tales of SIG for a few vivid examples. Furries are unwanted and even had a war of extermination waged against them in the distant past. So here's another group. Skags are actually a brute species that was discovered and exploited because they love to fight. They are a Denisovan and Neanderthal mix, but most human cultures see them as totally non-human. They mostly lead simple lives of survival on the outskirts of settlements. They're quite capable of hunting and foraging but generally shun technology. That has led most cultures to label them as primitive and stupid. Aren't the enlightened space faring humans just so wonderful?
