The younger sister was half some kind of butterfly person and half-whatever species her adopted father is (he's presumably some kind of alien which looks exactly human, like Kryptonians from Superman or the Juraians from the Japanese cartoon which inspired this).

Her mother was her adopted father's divorced wife, her actual father was her mother's new husband. I don't know why she didn't live with them, but the idea was that her mother was some kind of kind of criminal, and presumably she thought it was better for her to have a quieter life. They got along fairly well.

Unlike her older sister, she was a socialite of some kind, not a soldier. She came to live with her father on Earth because she had a horrible breakup and needed to get away from it all, and there are few better places to get away in the galaxy than Earth.
