Commented Rerun: How it all began

Last year I told some things about where the comic came from,
and posted old drawings.

I'm going to do a repeat of that this autumn. For a month you'll get the first strips - with comments - while I work on a project of sorts.

This is, of course, the first strip.

There are two things here. The first is the very important definition: "some of the animals behaved more like humans". Not all animals in this world are anthropomorphic. Some people have very hard to accept this, but it is mostly a form of aestehtics. A world with multiple kinds of animal-people and normal animals is not more irrational than a world with, say, elves and dwarves and orcs and normal animals, or a world with humans and vulcans and klingons and normal space-animals.

So, more Narnia or Doc Rat than Kevin & Kell or Beastars, for people who read other talking animal things.

The second is the name "The Forest". While I imagine that, when useful for purpose of identification or comedy, this fairy-tale world is actually similar to ours, I avoid place names - at least locally- that aren't boring plain descriptions. Hence they live in the Forest, Sylvia comes from the Coast, and the City is the local power center.
