carosene onAh, the finale. This was so much fun, though I was totally zombified by the end. After the last page, I actually had half an hour or so left over. Good stuff.
Oh, by the way, in case you don't get the story, because a lot of it is kind of implied… Jean wasn't accepted as a model, on the girl's volleyball team, or by other girls (or by guys! There's a rant I planned mentally but didn't make it into the comic where Jean says "Girl's are scared of me and guys are petrified" or something.), because her height makes her so different from other girls. When the little man says "you have no place in our world" he means his elite modeling world, but in reality she has no place in the world at all. Shavon seems to be the first person to really accept her. Jean finds her place in beach volleyball, but when her opponents are close to her height and taller, what made her so different-and gave her the advantage in sports-is gone, and she realizes that she was dependent on her difference. So she thinks she's not good at volleyball, she's just tall, so maybe beach volleyball is yet another world she doesn't belong in. Which pisses Shavon off. Ultimately, even though Shavon doesn't see Jean come back into the court, she trusts Jean to come back, so she still signals "block on my side too," the symbol of Shavon's faith in Jean's ability.
Conclusion! Jean belongs in Beach Volleyball after all, as long as she can be Shavon's partner, since they get and accept each other. Yay!
