He's not just being naiive. Jix is in an area past a lot of security, so it's only fair to assume someone wandering around the halls is supposed to be there. The little device she's carrying around doubles as a map and an anti-security measure.
When I have characters that don't show up for a while, I like to change up their design. With this scientist, I decided to give him his hair back and a beard. The first version was more like Dex from Dexter's Laboratory, the second had more of a bald mad scientist, and this one…I'm seeing kind of an Adam Savage thing going on.
