Ikebana… The Japanese art of flower arrangement… I always think that the finished product looks very beautiful, but upon taking lessons could not understand what was going on. My teacher would keep "fixing" my flowers and saying that they looked better, but in my opinion it looked exactly the same, and I couldn't understand what part of it was "better" because she would never explain!!! If anyone out there does Ikebana, perhaps you can explain this to me?
Soooo I am reading Black Jack right now (Tezuka Osamu). The art and the story are both super original. It's so weird that this guy is considered the beginning of all great manga, and yet all of his work seems so original. You'd think a bunch of annoying people would have copied his style by now… I guess they have in some ways, what with the usage of tones and zoomlines that he apparently started.
Oh and talking about Tezuka, I'm going to my manga school for the first time this weekend! Apparently I get to choose what courses to take for the week I'm there (such as panel techniques 101, character design 101) it seems like so much fun!!! So my question to everyone, if you could take any type of comic drawing course in the world, what would it be? Ahhh yes, a very tough question… For me right now I'd wanna take something between tones 101 and backgrounds 101. Oh well. See everyone tomorrow. Thanks for all the amazing comments, love you all!
