The first use of a redshirt on LICC was just a throwaway line about a redshirt dying as the ship headed somewhere. After that the team was surrounded by villains so the Redshirt Suicide Squad appeared & threw themselves in front of the weapons to allow the heroes to get away. In that instance it was explained that redshirt were clones created to sacrifice themselves in such situations, although other explanations were later made.

Still it was fun to design this shirt.
