[301] Art for a Rainy Day

While I was working on today's rendition of Gustave Caillebotte's Rainy Day an idea for a side project came to mind.

A Comic Retelling of Art History

Imagine a webcomic that took place in the settings of famous art pieces. It would be art historical and different facts about the time period and place would be tossed around, but it would focus on two main characters who are unique to the story altogether. The chronology could jump around or it could read like an art history book throughout the ages. The first chapter would have the main characters begin in the Caves of Lascaux, take a tour through Italian Basilicas, have a picnic on the Island of la Grande Jatte from Georges Seurat's Sunday Afternoon and then wake up in the surreal like world of Salvador Dali.

Honestly, the different scenarios are endless and it would be a fun and educational project. Of course in order for something like this to work, I would have to devote one or two days per week to work on them. Regardless, I would love to own a comic book that incorporated characters interacting in real settings of art pieces already in existence. I wish I had this kind of book in my collection while I was in college.

I'll keep this idea in consideration because it seems too cool to pass up.
