[338] It's Raining in Portugal

Today's update references the song "Raining in Baltimore" by the Counting Crows. The rain here is constant and this song always plays in my head.

This scene takes place in Baixa Chiado (Downtown Lisbon) in front of the Rua Augusta arch. I added the parallel black lines on the top and bottom of the page and felt it gave a wide screen effect.

On the verge of tears?

Some readers have been telling me that Leona's facial expressions, especially her eyes look sad all the time and in the most recent update, she looks like she was about to cry. I have prepared a case study from strip 153 (where Leona was supposed to be making a forced smile) and strip 337 (an Easter special) to see if there are any changes in the way I'm drawing her emotions.

The ironic part is that she looks sadder in the Easter Special.

Honestly, I have unintentionally been drawing Leona a little more somber since I arrived in Europe. I think the feeling of being isolated in a strange place is starting to hit. I miss being around people my age and having intellectual conversations with my peers back at home.

I miss the States.
