530: Choices Part One

Two things to talk about tonight, but lets start with the more time sensitive and less pertinent: I saw The Clone Wars this weekend, and I liked it. If you dont care about that, skip down to the bolded words. Theres something important I want you to read there. Perhaps not as much as Alan and the (as yet) unnamed woman in the above comic, but still quite a bit. I guess before I give you my rating, you need a little context. Sitting atop my television set is one of those high dollar lightsaber replicas. To its immediate left is a cardboard cutout of C-3PO. Three Yoda action figures line my desk and watch me work. There's a huge stack of books that I'm getting ready to read, and all of them have Star Wars in the title. I have, on occasion, written Star Wars fan fiction. With that in mind, I give the movie a Four out of Five.

I wanted quite desperately for there to be more Star Wars when the prequels were over and done with. I needed it, but I was point positive that Id seen the last of the Galaxy Far Far Away. When I was given this reprieve, and new content went into production, I was ready to love whatever I was given. Clone Wars wasn't without flaws, but then none of the movies are. I wanted to enjoy basking in the glow of the Star Wars Galaxy, and I did.

The movie, as intimated above, introduces a padawan for Anakin by the name of Ahsoka. Shes hot headed and rash, and I started out hating her with a passion. As the movie continued and we got to know her, she started to grow on me. I ended up leaving the film with only a mild dislike of the character, due to her insistence on calling R2D2 Artooie. The story also suffers from Small Galaxy Syndrome, in that it falls into the prequel trap of forcing characters we know to have met one another long before they should have. Its a big galaxy, but you wouldnt know it from this. I also HATED some of the voice actor choices. But

Im willing to forgive all that. Ill take the stuff I didnt like, push it aside, and still enjoy what I was given. Theres a lot of good there. And because someone has to.

ABOUT THE COMIC:

You may have noted the slightly modified header flying on tonights strip. If you didnt it notes that my good friend and sometimes collaborator Chris, also known as Taff or Real Mike, is co-authoring this story arc with me. The next three weeks of strips were plotted by him, with me just filling in the gaps with dialogue and stage direction. It shouldnt be a big shift from what youre used to, as hes had his hand in the strip in one form or another for years now. Hes also a brilliant writer and much funnier than most people give him credit for. So enjoy these comics, because theres some fun stuff coming up.

Thanks for reading, and Happy Tuesday.

Until Tomorrow
