I always found doppelgängers to be a pretty neat idea, especially when used in context of a character wresting with any kind of inner turmoil. Plus, they're just really cool! You remember Zelda II when you had to fight Shadow Link, right? And what is the scariest foe than one that knows everything about you and can match everything you do?

With the Scythe, I was able to write Shadowcaster into the story, and I'm really glad I had the opportunity. And not just because the name is clever, either.

I'm not really trying to go on the metaphor that Lancaster has a lot of deep internal issues. He does, though, but as you'll eventually see, Shadowcaster doesn't represent them. It's just a fun story to kill time until the real stuff happens.
