Part of the fun of doing profiles like these are getting to reveal things about characters that wouldn't get revealed in the natural course of the story. Also, this means I don't have to stop the story in random places just to do a flashback on a particular character.

Don't get me wrong, flashbacks are just fine and dandy. But I think there are better ways to flesh out a character than flashback to the 50's every twenty pages, and especially if it's for just one small but important detail.

But then, that's just me and how I like to tell stories.
