It has always been a dream of mine to dress up exactly like this and critique the most pretentious critics work that I can find. And if they don't have any work to critique, I'll critique their critiques. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with critiques. In fact I fully support the idea. As boring as they may be ( Those of you who have taken art class know. ) they definitely have a purpose and really do help people learn. However, I can't stand people who don't create any work of their own or refuse to allow their work to be critiqued, ( If critiqued isn't a word I call copyrights. ) yet feel that they are justified in tearing apart another person's work. So it was my great pleasure that while in Detroit I got the chance to tear into just such a person who decided to mock Andrew Bell's ( Creatures in My Head ) work simply because it is "cartoony". I can only imagine how much fun it would have been to mock them in the process by purposely dressing in the stereotypical pretentious critic clothing while doing it.
That little rant aside, obviously I'm back. I hope I didn't lose too many of you. It was a quite lovely trip and it was nice to go back to a state that actually contains trees ( Ok, slight exaggeration on my part. But not too slight. ). It's always a nice thing to be able to take a break, get a change of scenery and step back to think. I love traveling for that reason. For me, it's almost a critical part of thinking and creating. ( Insofar as 8 hours straight in a car alone is enough time for my ADD to do it's job.) For a good while there I was beginning to worry that the art and humour of the comic was dragging and falling off of standards, however, a quick vacation and I'm ready to get back to it with a whole list of new ideas to play with. The break even gave me a chance to work on my penciling technique and it's already helping me get their facial expressions to look better. I strongly advise you all to drop whatever you're doing ( Unless it's like a nuclear warhead or something. ) and take a quick break. Your boss or teacher might think you've had enough of a break reading this novel here, but your eyes are tired, and you've earned it. So lean back, take a deep breath and stretch out. You'll feel better.
