Modern art is easy

I don't necessarily hate modern art, but I don't exactly regard it as the most amazing thing in the world either. All too often to me it looks like someone threw up on a canvas while an artist happened to be walking by and he decided it made a nice set of splatter marks ( Gross isn't it? ). Now, I'm not saying it's effortless either mind you. At least not for me given my personal experience with it. Recently for a drawing class I had to create an non-objective piece from a still life. If you're curious as to how you can draw a non-objective artwork from a still life which is an objective and tangible thing, well you'll have to ask someone else, because I have not a clue. I think I spent almost 10 hours ( Or maybe 15 minutes, I'm never paying attention to the clock much. ) just trying to figure out some way to make the thing look good, until I realized that no matter what I did, it was essentially going to wind up looking like an especially brain-dead chimpanzee with Parkinson's disease and a bad sense of colour had scribbled on the paper with a crayon. So I'm an utter failure at creating modern art, and I don't appreciate high art properly I guess. But what else is new? I'm a cartoonist.
