What? It's hot out!

Lately, I've been trying to put more backgrounds into the comics, as a result of a request from a few people wanting me to make what I do more "involved". But looking back over the last couple of weeks worth of comics, it feels to me like that extra focus being away from the writing and delivery of the humor hasn't really helped me in any way. In fact, I rather feel that it has only hurt Last Words. Putting backgrounds in and relying on the situational comedy that goes with background settings to me feels like it removes much of the unique Last Words flavor that I started with. Somehow, it doesn't feel as interesting or humorous to my mind in a lot of cases. Now, I could be over thinking and over-analyzing, but I've learned over time that when I have a gut feeling, there's usually a reason for it. So, I'm deciding to focus a little more on the humor content of the comics and do things my way and go back to fewer backgrounds, using them only when I feel it fits the humor and won't leave things lacking. While I do want to be growing as an artist and learning to make my work more full and everything, I don't feel that this is the place to be doing it. One of the things that I always enjoyed with Last Words was simply how it was often so different from other comics of it's format, and I don't want to leave that behind.

But for now, it's time to be stop being so serious about stuff ( Fun word #347: stuff. ). I'm going to go see if I can find a way to make a watermelon explode with an air compressor ( Because I am a guy and I can. ). Who wants video?
