This one set a new record for time spent on a single panel comic for me. all told, by the time I was done, this one took just under 6.5 hours. I spent probably 2 of those hours going back and forth over what colours to use. I'm hoping that my OCD day here and extra time shows through on this one. For some reason, I was just very much in the mood to create and work on a tablet today, which is pretty rare for me, considering I tend to much prefer the traditional part of the process. I took the chance to go a little psycho on the experimentation, and overall, I think it was well worth the time spent. I hope you guys like what I came up with here.
I've been told by a great number of people from all walks of life, including hardcore religious folks and equally strong-minded Satanists ( His description of himself, not mine. ) that I am going to hell ( Although, the Satanist guy might have meant it as some sort of compliment. ). It's never failed to amuse me how some people can be so horribly offended, even by the relatively tame humor of Last Words ( At least compared to comics such as Chopping Block, etc. ). All too often, when I get an email, or a comment from one of these people I end up dissolving into a massive giggling fit that can occasionally last for days on end simply because of how absolutely convinced they are that I'm going to burn for drawing cute creatures with foul mouths ( Apparently, it doesn't take much. ). At one point, I was stoutly accused of being Satan's mouthpiece by a woman who proceeded to start chanting some holy Catholic incantation and hopping about. I was so moved and enlightened by her display, I believe I may have dislodged several key bodily organs from the violent shaking my enlightenment caused. Even a few of the folks around me who were praying felt themselves being enlightened ( This entire episode occurred because I happened to be in the back of a church patiently waiting to pick someone up without praying. ).
Now, that's not to say I have a problem with people who believe in a particular religion. I can appreciate the concept of believing in something bigger than yourself and give the folks who choose to do so credit for their efforts and dedication. I myself believe in the mighty power of caffeine ( If it keeps me going through all of school, then it has to have some amazing power. ) and if I ever wind up in hell, I'll be sure to bring a couple cases of caffeinated beverages and marshmallows. I get the feeling, that once they've all gotten a chance to try such treats, everything will chill out a lot down there. It might even become the cool place to go. Of course, even if it doesn't, I'll bet I can run a great trade in teaching people how to roast the perfect marshmallow.
After all, since I've been given all this forewarning, I might as well practice some.
