For some reason I take great delight in these sorts of jokes. Not that I don't enjoy almost all the jokes I make, but these one that involve some emotional element are particularly a favorite of mine. Perhaps it is simply because they're a bit of a rarity these days in a world where emotional connection often seems to be a rather overlooked feature of things ( Or it could be that I just like tormenting little kids. You decide. ). While working on this particular comic I found myself being increasingly distracted by the recent remake of the classic James Bond flick Casino Royale. Not necessarily because it had lots of big bangs, flashing lights and I'm ADD, but because for a James Bond movie it contained an exceptional amount of emotion. Instead of simply watching Bond calmly beating the living crap out of someone ( At such moments I usually find myself wondering how his hair dresser does the amazing feats of G-force engineering she does. ), you saw him purposely shoot another man in the ankle. And despite the fact that you don't actually see his face as he does it, you know Bond is pissed. And that's really a rare sort of treat ( I mean the fact that the film actually humanizes the character, not the violent trauma inflicting part. Unless you're into that sort of thing, in which case you'll like it anyway. ) Of course, it's not only in Bond films where people lacking real connections is apparent. Walk down any street in America and you'll see people doing various things with their cell phone, usually involving text messages. It's gotten to the point that you can now order pizza via text or decide which colour of paint you want to get put on your car through your iphone. I'm imagining that soon we'll be able to do everything from brush our teeth to having sex via a text message ( "Oh baby, you make me OMG my lolstick in the ROFLMAOTNTDBZ". ). I may be mistaken, but at one point while driving, I went past a couple who to all apparent purposes who trading text messages between the front and back seats of the car while one of them was driving. ( And you know these people are discussing what type of pizza to order to eat while they watch the game on their buddies new 4" tv phone. ) What's resulted is that news channels are starting to do features on how texting is the new drunk driving. I personally say, that we ought to go back to having to talk in person with our long distance communications consisting of two tin cans and a piece of string ( I'm suggesting we go back to Kindergarten people. That means daily cookies and nap time too. ). We were all much more friendly and connected back then. So let's be done with this text messaging and disconnecting from other people business.
Because it's kind of hard to get dinner when the closest you can get to eating is sending virtual pizza. I may have to eat someone. Virtually of course.
